“The Freezer”, Season 1, Episode 29, Filmed 3/21/52, Aired 4/28/52

Happy St. Patrick's Day Everybody!!! I hope you enjoyed it responsibly. Drinking and driving can end terribly, no amount of laughter therapy could help a terrible ending like that. I hope all you’ll need therapy for, is the hangover you might have tomorrow.
Lucy is trying to save money by getting Ricky to buy a freezer to store meat in. Ricky says it’s to expensive. Ethel is having a similar problem with Fred, then Ethel realizes she has a butcher Uncle who is retiring and willing to give them his big freezer. Lucy and Ethel are so proud of their purchase, they decide to start saving money by buying a lot of meat. Lucy didn’t really understand how much she was buying, and ended up buying a whole cow. To get rid of the $400 worth of meat, Lucy and Ethel try to sell it at the butcher. After getting kicked out of the butcher, Lucy and Ethel run back to try to hide the meat in the freezer. When the boys come home early Ethel has to hold them up while Lucy hides the meat in the furnace that is being fixed. When Lucy is almost done hiding the meat, she gets locked in the freezer. When the other three go down stairs, they find a frosty red head. While defrosting Lucy, a wonderful smell is running through the building, the furnace has been fixed and now they had the biggest BBQ in NYC.
When Lucy is trying to get people to buy their meat she acted like a shady, gangster salesman. One of the lines she said was “Go away Kid you’re bothering me.” This famous line, that has been used in many TV shows and films, was said by W.C. Fields, a famous comedian who did many films in the 30’s. He was a jolly old man who had a drinking problem, which started because he was lonely while touring and the only way to have company was to drink with them. There are so many other ways to heal and bond, alcohol is not one of them. Having alcoholism in my family I realize I could have an addictive personality, therefore I never turn to alcohol to heal, always laughter. I felt this was fitting to bring up on one of the biggest drinking days of the year, please be safe and know your limit and never turn to drinking as a cure, put on something funny!
